Since its opening in 1981, the KCAF
Arts Theater has been one of Korea's finest theaters, comprising a 608-seat Main
Hall (including 6seats for people with disabilities) and a
150-seat Small Hall.
Decisions are made twice a year in regard to the rental of both halls
(in the
first and the second half of the year). The theater has always been one of
Korea's most popular among both artists and theatergoers, thanks to its low
rental rates and experienced staffs as well as cutting edge facilities.
- Main Hall of the KCAF Arts
Theater
A proscenium stage with a fan-shaped
auditorium that hosts 608 seats (including 6seats for people with disabilities)
in two stepped tiers, the Main Hall of the KCAF Arts Theater is fully equipped
with modern facilities such as 50 light sets, special effects devices, a
computerized console with a 524-circuit dimmer and channel system, and two
state-of-the-art LCD projectors that are utilized for visual effects and
subtitles for foreign-language productions.
Its multi-functional sound system is
a YAMAHA PM4000 (one 24ch/4st-1 unit and another 28ch/8st-1 unit) that can produce
excellent digital and analogue acoustics with seven hi-fi
130db speakers. The
acting area is 15m in width, 22.5m in depth, and 8m in height, and provides all
kinds of modern devices to meet the needs of even the most fastidious directors.
The devices include a complex revolve with a diameter of 12m, which can freely
rotate around 360 degrees with a maximum speed of 50 seconds per revolution, two
ascending stages sized 1.5m×0.9m at both sides of the stage and 20 battens (from
November 2002). The 3.4m-deep orchestra pit takes 1 minute and 51 seconds to get
the bottom and can hold 16 players at a time including the conductor.
- Small Hall of the KCAF Arts
Theater
The Small Hall of the KCAF Arts
Theater is shaped like a rectangular cube, 11.8m in width, 15.4m in length, and
4.9m in height. Depending on the performance, the stage and seats can reach a
capacity of 150 seats. The theater has a 272-circuit dimmer, and a lighting
system that can be manipulated either manually or automatically. Illuminations
are arranged in the style of a studio, allowing producers to experiment with a
variety of lights and colors. Six mobile speakers, perfect for a small stage
such as this one, can be productively exploited for experimental and avant-garde
performances.
- Auxiliary Facilities
The KCAF Arts Theater also contains a
spacious foyer, practice rooms and dressing rooms (six
for Main Hall/ two for Small Hall), as well
as two rest areas with high fidelity PDP screens that display a view of the
theater stage. There is also a coffee shop and a restaurant for performers. The
271§³ practice room is very popular among artists.
