Established in 1979, the Marronnier Art Center, a nonprofit, public exhibition space under the direction of the Korean Culture and Arts Foundation, is at the avant-garde of Korean institutional art spaces.

The center is located on Daehak, or Student, Street, in the Dongsung area of Seoul, and as the name of the street indicates, it has a long history as a hotbed for students' intellectual thinking and anti-establishment activities.

The plaza in front of the center often becomes a scene on which rallies and performances, political demonstrations, cultural activities, and general hanging out coexist.

Through its ongoing organization of important programs and exhibitions and its ideal location in the heart of an important cultural area of Seoul, the Marronnier Art Center works more than anything else to attract and showcase contemporary art activities.

And through its continuing development of international and regional cultural exchanges it promotes diversity.

A cornerstone of this development is the renovation of the center that began in 2000 in order to consolidate the center's public, educational, and social role.

Another cornerstone is its K_MAC Master Plan for the 21st Century, which posits the future strategy of the Marronnier Art Center as a multiplex infrastructure for art.
