Taepyeongso is one of the wooden wind instruments, but its trumpet-shaped end is made of copper. It¡¯s also called hojeok, swaenap, soina, swaena, cheoljeok and nalanri. Originally used by the Chinese-Moslems, this musical instrument was imported during the late Goryeo Dynasty. Taepyeongso was used in the army Daechwita, Somu of Jeongdae-eop in the Royal Ancestral Shrine, Bunung and Yeonggwan. Today, it¡¯s one of the representative folk instruments and is widely used in farm music and Buddhist music. |
